Many of the large social media companies thrive on our species’ inherent confirmation bias — the unwillingness to listen to and engage with ideas that challenge our beliefs, but rather cling to the ones which are familiar to us. Alex Stamos’ closing lines in his article in the Washington Post(https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/yes-facebook-made-mistakes-in-2016-but-we-werent-the-only-ones/2018/11/17/3b62b422-ea9d-11e8-a939-9469f1166f9d_story.html?utm_term=.cb9058a51c73) is something we must all strive to achieve: “The last line of defense will always be citizens who are willing to question what they see and hear, even when it means questioning our own beliefs.”
